Next week, for Week 16 of our SEL program, we’ll focus on being self-managers. This means self-regulating, making thoughtful decisions, and being "zero/one timers" — doing things right the first time.
Please talk to your child about these ideas to help reinforce the lesson at home.
Thank you for your support!
This week was Week 15, and our SEL focus was on respect. We talked about honoring diversity, practicing inclusion, and understanding that "All means all." Students learned to demonstrate equity and be socially aware, celebrating differences and treating everyone with kindness.
Please take a moment to ask your child what they learned this week. You might ask, "What does it mean to be respectful?" or "How can we honor and include others?" These simple questions can spark a meaningful conversation at home.
Thank you once again for your continued support.

Join us for Barnesgiving November 20th at 5:00p.m. There will be food, Prizes, Story time and a lot more.
Next week is Week 13 of the school year, and our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) focus will be on being kind. Students will engage in activities and discussions about showing kindness to themselves, others, and the world around them. Over the weekend, we encourage you to ask your student how they can show kindness at school. Together, we can help foster a more caring and thoughtful community.
Don't forget we are hosting students and their families tomorrow afternoon. Our hope will be to strengthen our school community. Several community organizations will be in attendance. Also, our school will offer to pay for fingerprinting for interested volunteers!! Bears 🐻 building community!!!!
We’re now in Week 12, and our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) focus this week is on practicing safety by following adult directions. We’re encouraging students to understand that adults make decisions with their best interest in mind, helping to create a safer and more positive environment for everyone. Ask your student about the meaning of CLAWS and how it helps them keep safe at school. Thank you for your support!

Barnes Bear students and staff,
This is a friendly reminder for us all to honor our veterans tomorrow by dressing up in red, white, and blue. It is a small gesture; however, we want to honor them by showing how much we value our 4 B's.
Thank you veterans,
Principal Peck (a grandson & a nephew to two veterans)
Don't forget to wear your "Dare to be a Bear" shirt tomorrow! All students and staff get a shirt because they're part of our school community & school family. You don't need to do anything to get one of these shirts; however, remember the 4 B's when you wear one. We all have a responsibility to each other. Go Bears!
Dear Parents,
As we reach Week 10, next week's SEL Big Bear focus is RESPECT. We'll discuss how students can contribute to a positive school community through respectful actions. Over the weekend, please ask your student if they feel they are honest and considerate toward others. Reflecting on these values at home reinforces what we're teaching in school.
Thank you for your support!
Great job, Barnes family, on reaching 93.34% attendance from October 1 to October 18! You're so close to hitting 94%. Keep up the hard work and encourage everyone to stay consistent. 🎯🐻
Dear Barnes Elementary Families,
Yesterday, our school participated in a Shelter in Place Earthquake Drill as part of the Great American ShakeOut, joining thousands of schools across the nation in practicing safety procedures. During the drill, students followed the Drop, Cover, and Hold On procedure. The students did an excellent job following the guidelines to ensure everyone stays safe in case of an emergency. These drills are crucial to our preparedness, and we will continue practicing throughout the year.
To help your child reflect on what they learned, consider asking them these questions:
1. What steps did you take during the drill to stay safe, and how would you use those same steps if an earthquake happened while you were at home?
2. How would you stay safe if you were outside when an earthquake occurred—whether at the park, in the car, or somewhere else?
Thank you for your support.
Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well! Starting this Friday, I will be sending out a weekly update via text message and email to share our SEL Big Bear focus for the upcoming week. These updates will be sent every Friday so that you have the opportunity to discuss and work with your student over the weekend, helping to prepare them for the week ahead. This will be a great way for us to stay connected and support your child's success together.
Thank you for your continued partnership!
Dear Parents,
We want to inform you that there are currently 66 students who have already accumulated more than 2 absences this school year. Please be aware that missing 10% of the school year (18 days) can put your student at significant risk of falling behind academically. If your child has a fever of 100.4 F or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, or pain that is more than mild and prevents participation in class, please keep them home. If your student is not experiencing any of these symptoms we encourage you to send them to school. If you have any concerns or need support and resources to help your child stay on track, please don't hesitate to contact us at 360-501-1500. Your partnership is vital in ensuring your child's success.
Thank you
