2 Black Bears saying goodbye

On Tuesday, 34 of our amazing Resource Room students from Kindergarten to 5th grade had a wonderful adventure at the Oregon Zoo in Portland! Joined by 17 incredible volunteers, including parents, Barnes staff, and District Office team members, the day was filled with joy, learning, and building stronger connections.

One of the day’s highlights was the special train ride—thank you to the Portland Zoo for opening it just for our students! As we wrapped up our visit, something magical happened: two black bears climbed to the top of some evergreen trees as we exited. It felt like a sign from the wild, reminding us Barnes Bears to always follow the 4B's and have a safe journey back to Kelso.

It was truly a day to #belong, learn, and participate!

Let’s carry this amazing energy into our school year, inspired by both real bears and our incredible Barnes Bear family. 🐻
