WELCOME TO THE KELSO SCHOOL DISTRICT ENROLLMENT CENTER
New Student Enrollment
Under state guidelines, a child must be five years old by August 31st to enter kindergarten.
What do I need to register?
Parents/caregivers will need to complete registration for each student and submit the following documentation:
Proof of Student’s Age (required for students entering Preschool, Transition to Kindergarten, and Kindergarten):
Birth Certificate, Passport, Baptismal Certificate, or Adoption Decree
Address verification:
Acceptable verification:
Cowlitz County Assessor website (Showing parents/guardians as owners of property with a home on the property)
Lease or Rental Agreement, AND one of the following
Current Utility bill with a full month charge (Cowlitz County PUD)
Current Telephone bill (landline, not wireless)
DSHS documentation for applying for benefits or receiving benefits at the address
If you are in the process of purchasing or building a home you will need to submit choice/transfer paperwork to the district office with the following:
Final closing papers with move-in date/commitment papers
Acceptance contract from seller with closing date
Building permit from Cowlitz County and a general contractor contract with a completion date and move-in date
Purchase agreement contract from the bank
DSHS documentation for applying for benefits or receiving benefits at the address
Not acceptable:
Title insurance showing the plot of land cleared and purchased
Student’s Certificate of Immunization Status or Certificate of Immunization Exemption.
Families Experiencing Homelessness: Students experiencing homelessness are not subject to provide address verification or required documents. Visit our Family & Community Resource Center page for more information.
The district will not inquire into a student's citizenship or immigration status or that of his/her parents or caregivers.
When enrolling a student who previously attended another school
The district will reach out to the student's previous school.
The parent/caregiver will be required to disclose the following:
Student’s legal name
History of placement in a special education program;
Past, current, or pending disciplinary actions;
History of violent behavior or convictions,
Adjudications or diversion agreements related to a violent offense, a sex offense, inhaling toxic fumes, a drug offense, a liquor violation, assault, kidnapping, harassment, stalking or arson;
Unpaid fines or fees from other schools; and
Health conditions affecting the student’s educational needs
Please note that if your child has a potentially life-threatening illness such as diabetes or asthma a health plan will need to be in place before a child is able to attend school.
